Welcome to the Caerphilly & District Angling Association, this site is a resource for information on the Caerphilly club waters, news and updates on whats going on.
-Please send us photos of your catches via the contact section & send us your catch reports for the club waters in the box to the right to let us know how the fishing is.
Good news and bad news to report. Unfortunately our lease of the river Wye at Biblins has ended so the club ticket will no longer cover fishing on this stretch of river. Although the club has recently agreed a new lease with a stretch of the Wye near Goodrich Castle. This is located at "The Homme" farm just upstream from Kerne Bridge. Club members are able to fish 3/4 of a mile of the river. A full list of rules and directions will be made available shortly on the website and in Tony's Tackle. Initial reports are good with barbel, chub and pike being caught. Please ensure all members conduct themselves in a proper manner and remove any litter and take it home with you, it is a working farm! A club license will need to be carried at all times and shown when requested to club bailiffs or the land owner.
Also, congratulations to Martin Thomas who has been crowned "King of the moat" after the annual match and winning the last two matches on the castle lakes. The coveted T-Shirt I'm sure is now in a frame above his mantelpiece!

Any club member is able to fish the river at Wyesham between October 19th and January the 1st. The article and photos follow on from a previous feature on Caerphilly castle lakes also featuring Martin. +++match report 23/10/11+++
The annual match on the Wyesham stretch of the Wye turned out a huge bag of barbel for run away winner Barry Richards, who managed to get on the favoured top bend peg and took fifteen barbel to win the day with 87lb 10oz. Second was Martin Thomas with barbel and chub totaling 43lb 4oz and Dean Nott fighting hard in third place with 21lb of waggler caught chub.
***match report 18/9/11***
Is getting harder now the weather is turning colder, 34lb 4oz from peg 20 on the high bank provides a win for Martin Thomas made up of six carp, Chris Murphy takes second place with 27lb 8oz from tescos peg on the south lake and Steve Hoare in third from the low wall with 25lb 6oz, unfortunatley having a large carp jumping out of his keepnet which may have cost him the win on the day. 9th of October is the last match of 2011 on the lakes so any members who fancy a go are more than welcome! the draw takes place at 9am on the north lake, and the wyesham river match takes place on the 23rd of october again all members are welcome to take part.
*match report for 10th July 2011*
Not great conditions for this one with bright hot sunshine and not alot of breeze. Ever reliable low wall peg provides a win with five carp for a straight 38lb for Martin thomas. 2nd place goes to Barry Richards from peg 20 with 26lb 8oz. Dean Jay takes 3rd with 25lb 14oz including a 19lb mirror carp closley followed by Emlyn "smokey'' john with 24lb 4oz so it was a bit of a tight affair. I thought I had lost the weigh sheet for this one until tonight so better late than never i suppose!
Match report 19/6/11
A better turn out for this match, won by barry richards from peg 20 on the north lake with an expertly taken 52lb 12oz of method feeder caught carp, a stand out weight on the day where bites were hard to come by and also managing a pike of 14lbs that unfortunatly dont count in the competitions. Second place was taken from peg 3 of the north again to method tactics by some old guy called Chris Murphy with a spawny common of 17lb to bring his weight up to 39lb 8oz. Third place to Martin Thomas pegged on the south lake with 37lb 12oz of carp.
On saturday morning 11/06/11 two lads were spotted by an angler removing carp from Caerphilly castle lakes on the north lake high wall. This was very early, and they walked away from the lake with fish in carrier bags. If you see or hear of any fish thefts from the lakes please contact Caerphilly police station on - 02920852999 and give as many details as possible. The environment agency and local police have already been informed of the situation. Hopefully we can put a stop to this ASAP.
Please be careful with the rigs you use whilst fishing caerphilly castle lakes, I had to free a carp of around 16lb on the south lake by wading out and netting the fish as it was tethered to a broken off rig. Line and leadcore were entangled all around the fish and it was a horrible thing to see. Be aware we WILL be checking rigs routinely to ensure they are safe in the event of a break off. Leadcore is not permitted, use anti-tangle tubing its much safer for the fish. The leadcore ban is as a result of various incidents like this and follows in line with many other major club, syndicate and commercial waters thinking on the safety of its use. If you are unsure if your rig is safe or if you haven’t considered it before a good test is the hold the hook between your thumb and forefinger and sharply jolt the rig with the lead or feeder setup on the line. Check it either drops off the lead clip or dislodges from the swivel and runs freely down the line, if this doesn’t happen then the fish will be unable to free itself, possibly leading to fish damage and or deaths. The club will be organising a clean-up on the lake to clear problem snags and debris from the lakes which should help. If you do have questions about what rigs to use or how to setup safely please feel free to email us or ask on the bank!
